Goodyear Recalls Tires Produced In 2009

Goodyear Tires recently announced a voluntary recall of Wrangler Silent Armor tires made in 2009 due to potential defects in the tire tread. Under “severe conditions” the tread may separate from the rest of the tire potentially causing an accident. We have found that oftentimes a defective product is not recalled until lawsuits are filed to bring attention to the defect. We congratulate Goodyear for taking responsibility to remove a potentially defective product before someone was badly injured.

If you own the affected Wrangler Silent Armor tires, you should have been notified of the tire recall by March 22, 2012 and your tires will be replaced for FREE. Tire brand, line and size, and production dates involved in the recall include:

Tire Brand: Goodyear/Wrangler Silent Armor tires

Production dates: March 1, 2009 through May 31, 2009

Tire Line and Size:

  • LT285/70R17 LRD
  • LT245/75R17 LRE
  • LT275/70R18 LRE

Your safety on the road and that of your family literally rests on the safety of your tires. We strongly recommend you regularly check your tires even if you are not involved in the Goodyear tire recall. Regular tire maintenance is essential for the proper and safe operation of your vehicles. Experts recommend the following tips to help keep your vehicle safe:

  • check tire pressure regularly, including your spare
  • check tire pressure before a trip
  • regularly visually inspect for abnormal wear and tear
  • rotate regularly according to your vehicle’s owner’s manual
  • maintain proper balance and alignment
  • don’t overload your vehicle
  • replace your tires as required, and replace in pairs or complete sets
