Automakers Mazda, Volkswagen, and GMC all recently announced vehicle recalls affecting over 500,000 vehicles in the U.S. If you own one of the affected vehicles, it is essential for you to take your recalled vehicle in to repair defects that unrepaired could increase your risk of injury or death. Check below to see if any of your vehicles, or those owned by loved ones, is affected.
Mazda announced recalls affecting 308,992 vehicles:
At issue are driver-side front airbags susceptible to ‘moisture intrusion’ that could cause the airbag to explode unexpectedly causing metal fragments to fly throughout the interior of the vehicle posing great risk of injury or death to driver and passengers.
Mazda dealers will replace the defective inflators free of charge to customers. Mazda will notify owners when parts are available to repair recalled vehicles. The recall started September 1, 2017.
Owners can call Mazda Customer Service for additional information at 800-222-5500.
The German automaker announced this recall affecting 280,915 vehicles.
The recall affects VW 4-cylinder engines:
The problem is faulty fuel pumps, which may cause vehicles to suddenly stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the faulty fuel pumps free of charge. Parts are not yet available for repair but Volkswagen will contact vehicle owners with recall information by October 13.
VW owners affected by the recall can call customer service at 800-893-5298 for additional information.
The GM recall involves only 2905 models:
While the vehicle is being driven, the right front intermediate driveshaft is subject to fracture and separation causing lost propulsion and increases the risk of crashing. If the driveshaft malfunctions while the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not activated, the vehicle may roll away unintentionally.
Dealers will replace defective driveshafts free of charge although repairs have not yet started and there is no start date for the recall.
Additional information is available to GM customers at 800-462-8782, and to Chevrolet customers at 800-222-1020.
All vehicle owners affected by any recall involving any vehicle model and make can contact the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
