The team at Becker Law Office is excited to offer the Distracted Driving Impact Awareness Scholarship. We started this scholarship to get applicants thinking about the impact of major auto accidents caused by distracted driving and how these accidents have different effects on teens, adults, and the elderly. By considering the impact on these three driver age groups, we hope to force applicants to put themselves into the mind of the people in these age groups and better understand how an accident affects people differently.
Our team hopes that as applicants write their submissions, they come to understand that accidents can have a wide range of impacts on different people, as opposed to just the impacts the applicant might face if they were involved in an accident. By understanding how one’s driving habits can affect others, we believe this understanding can help individuals decide to change their driving habits for the better.
This year, our firm will be offering two $1,000 scholarships to the two applicants whose essays best capture the impact of distracted driving on all three age groups. One applicant will be chosen from among residents of Kentucky, while the other applicant will be chosen from our pool of national applicants. Applicants are encouraged to think outside the box when writing about how accidents can have varying effects on individuals aside from having a damaged car. Winning applicants will present well thought-out responses that back up their points with facts and/or examples.
All entrants agree that they consent to the use of their name and area of residence, as well to the use of their likeness (as in a photograph) and prize information.
Drunk driving causes many wrecks in the state of Kentucky. Recently Becker Law Office teamed up with Safe Ride KY to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road by giving out Lyft passes during major holidays where drinking and driving accidents are common. Discuss the impact a major auto accident caused by a drunk driver could have on each type of driver involved in such an accident- teen, adult and elderly. How would this type of accident have an impact on these individuals outside of just a damaged vehicle.
Entries will be reviewed by the firm and then be judged on the creativity and merit of entries.
