Ford just cannot seem to avoid trouble with its signature vehicle, the Escape SUV. For the fourth time since July, Ford is recalling the 2013 Escape—this time along with 2013 Fusion sedans—to repair potential engine fire hazards caused by overheating. Both the SE and SEL models are involved in the recall and all affected models have the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. The recall involves nearly 90,000 vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
2013 Escape and Fusion vehicles without the EcoBoost engine are not involved in the recall.
This is the fourth recall of the 2013 Escape since July and the third investigating possible engine fires for models equipped with 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine. Prior Escape engine fire hazard recalls repaired faulty fuel lines and then addressed coolant leaks. The third recall corrected braking interference issues with the driver’s side carpet padding.
Affected vehicle owners should contact their Ford dealer as soon as possible to obtain a replacement car, free of charge, until their vehicle is repaired. Ford dealers do not yet have the parts to make necessary repairs but will contact owners to schedule repair once parts are received.
